Hi,
Download this:
ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware/vmware-ws-1142-for-2.4.7.tar.gz
Should not be necessary with workstation 3.0
Unpack it and run 'make' and 'make install' in the vmmon-only and vmnet-only directories. Then run the runme.pl script to reconfigure VMware.
If you get an error, try to uncomment the line containing 'vmmon' in the /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl script.
You got to do this every time you install a new kernel, cause a new driver file for VMware must be built upon the kernels C header files.
Hope that will help you.

===== Original Message From Jacek Boboli
===== Hi ! I got more or less the same problem. My SuSE 7.1pro was installed with kernel 2.4.0, vmware-config.pl ran OK. Later I ran 2.4.7 rpm upgrade for 7.1 (downloaded from SuSE ftp). When trying to configure vmware, got the answer that not configured for the kernel and that C directory is lacking. Later, with mantel's 2.4.16, the same occured. How is that C to be set up ?
Rgds to all J.Boboli
PS hylafax and kghostview still unresolved : have saved root and home files to other partition, will erase this one and install again from scratch.

I've updated 7.3 to the mantel 2.4.16 kernel, then I installed VMwareWorkstation-3.0.0-1455
I've followed Volker's suggestions but when I try to run vmware it tells me that it is not configured for my running kernel. I've tried applying the update patch for 1455 but that makes no difference. I don't get any error messages during the run of vmware-config.pl so what is going wrong? This is driving me nuts....................!!!
Thanks

I just got an email from VMware saying that they have discontinued
Express
and are offering Workstation for $99. Although I already have Express, it is worth it to me to ensure that I get continued support and won't have
to
pay "big bucks" a couple years from now to support the 3.x Kernel (for example).
I successfully installed Workstation 3.0 from the SuSE 7.3 distro will no problems. I removed it them to install the Express 2.0 I had purchased. Sorry to say, for me it "just worked".

Hi gyus... does some one has successfully installed VMWare 3.x under

Dunno, I wasn't going to fork out big bucks for 3.x, but you could
always
try to follow the instructions for 2.0.4. Most likely the problems and solutions are identical. If you let me know how you got on, I could add it to the page.
