hi raul, this is not neccesarily a bug. to see what files are there is not all. you have serveral access rights that can be defined in unix/linux. first for the owner, read/write/execute, same for the group and for others. each can be set differently. if you have read+write+exec for the owner, but only read for others, other can see the file and even open it, but they can not write to it. if you take away the read flag too, you even cant open that file any longer. try out yourself, log on as another user in a different shell, create a file and modify the rights to it (man chmod). now look what the current user can do on that (other user's) file. tip : if you clear the executable flag on a directory for other users, they can no longer cd to that dir..... greets, chris Am Sonntag, 2. Using Gnome 1.4 on slack 8.0 I just was able when trying to select the background image to "view" the list of all the files in the other users home directory...
Is this bug? Must be! How can you possible see what there is in somebody elses home directory being a normal user.
Thanks alot, Raul
