Yesterday evening while on-line I heard an ominous pop only to discover that my US Robotics Sportster Voice 56K Faxmodem had bit the dust. Not to worry though as it came with a life time warranty. So today I called US Robotics to get warranty service and was told no deal, I had purchased the modem to work under win95 and as I was now using Linux, an UNSUPPORTED OS, my warranty was null and void! The warranty was only going to be acknowledged if I was using windows.
So a heads up to any considering purchase of a U S Robotics product. If you aren't running windows, its doesn't come with a warranty; a bit too much redmond for my taste!
That's such bullshit. You definitely need to call again and talk to someone else on the phone.
This is even more ridiculous considering US Robotics is _owned_ by 3Com and check out 3Com's linux page: http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/linux.htm
They offer GPL'd Linux drivers for their NICs and USR won't recognize your warranty because you're using Linux?!
You definitely need to call them again.

Hi: If that's the case, I want to add my $.02, and suggest Dave also ask to have the tech that said that to him tracked down and disciplined. I wonder if they honor warranties for government agencies they sell to? Tom
