Try this in your printcap. lp|Remote printer entry:\ :lp=:\ :rm=10.1.1.50:\ :rp=text:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote:\ :mx#0:\ :sh: Where 10.1.1.50 is the ip address of your printer. Its a long shot, but worth a try. Make sure you restart lpd before you test. Arthur H. Johnson II arthur@linuxbox.nu The Linux Box http://www.linuxbox.nu On Sun, 25 Nov 2001, Heribert Riesbeck wrote:
My printserver doubles also as a firewall. It is one of those standalone gadgets, no bigger than a book - 3COM home ethernet gateway it is called.
Under Windows it is possible to print by way of TCP through this unit to a printer which is connected to a parallel port at this 'gateway', which makes the printer a network printer. Obviously, this required a specific driver which came with this gateway.
I wonder now if I can teach my Linux PC to do the same. I tried a number of approaches such as CUPS but without success.
Is there anybody out there which has encountered a similar situation and is willing to share any successes. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
