Just so that I can be quite clear what is happening - you enter, and
you see "access control disabled, clients can connect from any host". You then
run xawtv and see the "ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(0): Input/output error" ?
What do you see when you run v4l-conf from the terminal - do you still see :
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
can't open x11 display :0.0
Under the current implementations of X, even root cannot access your screen
without permission. I was working on the assumption that the suid nature of
v4l-conf was, therefore, the problem. I really would expect at least that
problem to be solved by xhost +.
