This makes all no sense to me. One figures they release some note saying what is broken and how to circumvent the problem. How can the CD set not contain a root image you can use in conjunction with a harddisk(cd) install? Who comes up with these tie in schemes? Is Bill working for SuSE now? I have been with suse since 5.3 and I get more and more disappointed with every release. We reached the point where we get a new release which doesn't even install. Makes me think I was trying out some 2.4.15 stable kernel =) Are you talking about this issues: ? http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/daniel_ftpinst_local.html Anyway, the root image is present so I don't understand it. It is just yast dies when starting up. The root image is at: ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/suse/i386/7.3/suse/images/root Once again great that SuSE doesn't use bugzilla so we the users can't submit a bug report properly and follow up on how this gets dealt with. I am sick of these SuSE mantics leaving their users out in the dark. They are really quick on bringing out kde packages but they don't care that the kernel gets updated and stabilized or that an issue like this gets explained to the users. mk

WARNING: stay away from suse 7.3 ftp!!!!
Hello,
I saw the following mentioned in this list before by a guy named 'juno' but nobody had it confirmed. Well I can confirm this bug exists from my own experience.
<snip>
Caused, I think, by the fact that there is no root image available.
I tried doing the hard drive install from the CDs and had to download the root image from SuSE - they claim it wasn't included "for space reasons" - it's only 7Mb !!
Also the manuals suck on this point - they tell you that to do a hard drive install, you have to choose another installation medium, but nothing else - the 7.0 manuals had a step-by-step on how to do it.
There are also bugs in YAST2 (text version) - try submitting an Installation Problem report and the screen is blank !
