Oh. I was hoping on sticking with the SuSE kernel and patching that. I was wondering if anyone was working on integration of XFS in a SuSE kernel. Thank You, Anthony On Wednesday 21 November 2001 12:50, Jason Joines wrote:

Anyone running XFS on SuSE 7.3 could comment on installation instructions? Any observations on using XFS on SuSE 7.3 (ie;stability)?
Thank You, Anthony
If you are talking about the XFS file system, I just started using it on a non OS partition. I am backing up to it via virtual tape and it works great for that so far. I haven't yet tried any of the extended attribute stuff but intend to convert the OS partition to it this week and try that out.

SuSE 7.3 came with the XFS tools but it's kernel doesn't support XFS so you have to patch it. I tried to patch the SuSE source but had no luck so I had to get the source from kernel.org and patch that. Once you've installed the patched kernel, you can use the filesystem. If you want to use it on your OS partition, be sure and compile XFS directly into the kernel instead of as a module. You can get patches and some instructions for changing the OS partition to XFS at the projects home page, http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/
