Checked em both. Audio cable appears to be connected properly. Winamp plays
CD's if I boot into Windows. Played with all the buttons and sliders in kmix
too.

Hi,
I have been having problems with playing CD Audio running SuSE 7.3 that I finally solved, seemingly by accident. After downloading and compiling the latest versions of Xine, Freeamp, and trying all the CD Players in the SuSE installations, I had yet to hear anything when playing an audio CD. Sound seemed to work fine for everything else (DVD, KDE blips and bleeps, etc.) Checked my audio cable from my drive to my sound card, no problems there. Finally I downloaded and installed alsaplayer. Popped in a CD, and low and behold, sound! What is different about alsaplayer? I checked their website, but there is very little documentation. What little I can find on the web leads me to believe that this is a sound card problem. I have an SBLive 5.1 sound card. The drive is a Pioneer DVD drive connected with SCSI.
If alsaplayer works and regular CD player doesn't, it points to the problem with your sound cable. Also check your mixer settings, if cd input is not muted. -Kastus
I am happy it works, but as a compugeek, I want to know WHY!
