Look for apache in /etc/init.d and there will be two entries in /etc/init.d/rc3.d, one being K##apache and S##apache (where ## are numbers). These are symbolic links to
the /etc/init.d/apache entry. What I would do is rename each of the as old_<old file name>. In the rc3.d directory, you must put something ahead of the K## and S## or
there will be an attempt to restart them.
Then, make a symbolic link (ln -s <path and file> <link name> in /etc/init.d pointing to /usr/local/apache2/apachectl. Then make a symbolic link in the rc3.d directory with the
same K## and S## to the symbolic link you made in /etc/init.d

Hi i have compile an new version of apache and install it into /usr/local/apache2 what i need to know is where and in what files do i need to change the path in suse 7.1 to make the new apache load and not the older one i plan on talking the older one out but would like to make these changes first thanks for ny info BOB
