Hi : I`ve just installed a DVD-ROM (IDE) in my PC , and I
would like to
use it from Linux . After looking into boot.msg for

asigned , I´ve tried to create a link with :
ln -sf /dev/hdd /dev/dvdrom
I assume that you are mounting it via an entry in your "/etc/fstab" file?
You must make sure that you include the correct major / minor numbers as listed from the device thus:
ls -al /dev/dvdrom
A symlink seldom has major/minor numbers. And /dev/hdd should be correctly set up in a default suse install.
Its the two numbers nearest the name that you're interested in.....
Alternatively, have you tried a "manual" mount?
mount -t iso8XXXXX /dev/dvdrom
replacing iso8XXXX with the iso number of the drive??
"iso number of the drive"? Pray explain. I know about the iso9660 standard, which is a file system for CD records (hence the term 'iso image'). I assume, though I don't know, that UDF, the fs of DVD records, also has an ISO standard. But you mount it with iso9660. Also, if you use the -t option, you must give the directory you use as mount point. mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvdrom /media/cdrom is an example.
