Harry,
Out of interest (I'm always looking at accounting systems under Linux) what software are you trying to run?
Regards,
Jethro
I am setting up another business in S. Florida for very small companies (1-20 users) to get them computerized, networked, etc. and want to push Linux as much as possible. Accounting software is one product that will always need a distributor, as long as our tax laws are so freakin' complicated. End users need an accounting to verify the data (= profit) and someone to fix it when it breaks, as most small companies don't have the knowledge on how to fix it (profit again). The package can One package that I am using is Appgen. The have several decent sized packages from personal management, to small users (MyBooks. $99.00 and 5 seat license!) to huge corps, and it is easy to move up in packages, as they all use the same "base" system/programming. software. www.appgen.com Also, I am looking at one called Quasar. Again, $99.00, but is a bit light in comparison to MyBooks, but is much easier to fix mistakes. www.linuxcanada.com The problem is in MyBooks, and all the other business accounting packages, once you print an invoice, it can't be changed, deleted or anything except reprinting even before posting. Same with adding inventory items. I have one charge called MC (Mileage Charge) and accidentally entered the unit of measurement as HR (Hour) instead of MI (Miles), and can't change it. You can't delete it either unless it has not been accessed in any form. I also have a lot of experience with Oracles on line accounting, but there isn't a linux browser that works well with it (dang IE compliant sites!). It is very powerful, and pretty easy to use, and you can access it form anywhere you get a internet connection. It also runs on Linux servers. www.oraclesmallbusiness.com I have also used Cougar Mountain under W$ for over 12 years, but preferred the DOS version (personal preference). It is good and reasonable for a W$ accounting package. Quickbooks sucks. I have also had experience with some high end packages, like Great Plains, etc. but they are all W$ packages, and quite expensive. Feel free (anyone) to email me directly with any questions. I will be glad to help. Harry G
