Everything you get from Ximian is GNOME stuff - it's all part of the GNOME project, and as such the source is freely available, much of it from ftp.gnome.org (and what is not available there can normally be grabbed from ftp.ximian.com)

The main reason to use Ximian is to get GNOME all packaged up and nice, with an easy-to-use package maintenance utility (red-carpet), done by the hardest of hardcore GNOME hackers - Ximian was started by GNOME project daddio Miguel de Icaza.

But, far and away the best way to get yourself GNOME goodies if you have the time is to build it yourself - check out the GNOME Installation Guide at http://www.karubik.de/gig/ for details of the order to go about this.

If you want SuSE-style installations of everything (by that I mean to have stuff installed where the SuSE packages would be), normally you'll want to build things like this:

./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome --sysconfdir=/etc/opt/gnome --other-options && make && su -c "make install"

where --other-options are things you've learnt from ./configure --help that you figure you need

Where things need to be built against Mozilla (for example, Galeon or Nautilus), Mozilla libs are in /opt/mozilla Mozilla includes are in /opt/mozilla/include and NSPR includes in /opt/mozilla/include/nspr (if you use SuSE Mozilla RPMs and mozilla-devel RPMs)

Soon, Ximian Gnome will have a set up for its latest version of Gnome for S.u.S.E. 7.3.
