How well would the journalling filesystems work with the above RAID solutions?

I've recently looked into this a bit myself and ended up with and Adaptec 2400A IDE RAID card. I found an article at http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200106/200106132400A_3.html that compared the 3Ware, FastTrack and Adaptec cards and the Adaptec seemed to be the best. Adaptec also supports the widest variety of operating systems, Linux, BSD, NetWare, M$, etc. I haven't actually used the 3Ware or Promise cards but have noticed reports in mailing lists of problems getting them to work. There has been talk of the 3Ware series being discontinued. Reading out on Promise's website, it seemed that there was a lack of support for Linux in their higher end cards. I have used Software RAID with ReiserFS in SuSE 7.2 on some old full height SCSI drives and it works great. I am using ReiserFS on the 2400A card in a SuSE 7.3 box and it works well also. I intend to convert it to XFS if I can find a SuSE kernel that supports it. It has support for extended attributes, quotas, etc., and seems to outperform the others http://aurora.zemris.fer.hr/filesystems/. 7.3 with kernel 2.4.10 has RPMs for the tools but no module for the filesystem. We intend to use two of these cards and many removable drives to run backups to disk instead of a slow expensive hard drive. The cheapest place I found to purchase the 2400A was at megahause.com and it was $329. If you don't need RAID 5 you can get the 1200A which is basically the same card for $92.
