Woops I should have said no applications like perfmeter or top, vmstat etc
only using 'ps' or a another combination.
Perhaps using nawk to sort and display ? Regards

What is a nice 'ps' string to list the highest usage of cpu, pkts, page, disk, context and load. Try top. It's a standard program.

Try: ps aux | grep -i "some expression" | grep -v "grep expression same as previous one" That always works. [ the -v flag reverses the sense of matching to dis-include what you were searching for in the first place. I use it here, so that the "grep program" is not returned ].
