I was wondering whether there were any reasons _in principle_ why Linux desktop environments should only allow for cutting and

between applications in plain text.
Before I get into explaining this, let's make one thing clear; they're not "Linux" apps, they're "X" apps, at the least. Big difference.
Is this purely a case of the current toolkits' inadequacy, or does the problem go deeper into X11R6 standards?
The interoperability between KDE, GNOME, and other "DE" or toolkit-specific applications comes into play first of all. The KDE and GNOME teams are working on this, but work is slow. I've seen some KDE and GNOME applications, respectively, that do the preformatted text-copy-thingie, and I personally found it quite annoying; I don't think I'm a minority, either. If I want something formatted a certain way, I'll do it myself, thank you very much. I can't recall *which* applications do it, probably because I ceased to use these applications once this "feature" exposed itself. It's not universal, at any rate. ===== -- -=|JP|=- Hit me! - http://www.xanga.com/cowboydren/ Jon Pennington | Debian 2.3 -o) cowboydren @ yahoo . com | Auto Enthusiast /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | ICQ UIN 69 67 29 31 _\_V __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
