Can anyone give me some clues about installing ALSA?
I've just compiled and installed a 2.4.4.SuSE (7.2) kernel in 7.3 because the 2.4.10 acm module wouldn't work with my Elsa Microlink 56k usb modem. Now I'd like to add ALSA
support.
Where do I find/install alsa? Do I need to compile it into the kernel? or compile it at all. Has anyone got a detailed record of how they did it?
I just posted a message about this to someone else !
- get the alsa source, I cannot remember where it is, just use google to find it (alsa.org maybe ?)

- You can use the latest version, which is 0.5.11 I think - In the alsa directory do:
# ./configure --with-oss=yes --with-cards=emu10k1
Replace emu10k1 with whatever is appropriate, this is for an sblive. ./configure --help will give you a list
To make life easy make sure in /usr/src the symbolic link "linux" points to the linux source directory of the system you are running.
make dep make make install
I also enable sound and oss modules in the kernel config, I am not sure this matters but I vaguely recall having a problem once when I didn't.
That's it.
