Hi Martin,
I suspect I may indeed need to do parameter passing
but I do not see any notes that say what needs to
be done. The stock megaraid driver and source is
part of 7.1 distribution. Where would notes be?
Last time I contacted Suse support they informed me
that megaraid was unsupported...

I have tried installing the Suse 7.1 issued megaraid.o driver, and another I got off the AMI/LSI people.
insmod megaraid produces:
/tmpdir/megaraid.o: init_module: Cannot allocate memory Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Perhaps you should have passed some parameters with insmod? A text file should have come with the megaraid driver; does this provide any clues?
