The conf file from bind 8.2.3+ should work with bind9 without problem.
Where most people ran into problems upgrading from bind8x to bind9x was
with the zone files. they had to be much more meticulous and you could
not have multiple cnames. you can get a perfectly constructed zone file
for a bind9 server from a bind8 server by running the dig command on the
server.
