This kind of statement really annoys me. My part is to create
a stable computing environment for what I use my computer for.
If 7.3 offers me facilities that help me more with that than
my current system does I will buy it. If it does not I will
not.

I agree. I have views on SuSE's policy on this and on their marketing
policies in general. But you are right, if someone feels compelled to
always upgrade then it is indeed they who must pay the price SuSE asks
for this.
Many people are still using older versions of SuSE, and if this fits their
environment than that is fine.
Upgrading in a commercial environment has a lot of consequences.
Extensive regression testing not being the least.
