reboot using the install cdrom, at the boot prompt, type manual then choose your screen type and keyboard type, go to start installation and select the rescue mode. this will get you into your machine. you will have to mount the drives manually and such. i dont think the problem is with your /etc/rc.config file being corrupt - its only a text file and a typo or something in it should only cause a service or two not to start or something.
ok.. i was able to boot into rescue mode using the cd, and put the previous version of the rc.config file in place of the new one (which did somehow become a binary file), but i still can't boot past mounting /proc and /dev/pts.. i checked the boot.log and boot.msgs in the real fs (after mounting in the rescue system) and they don't show anything from the attempts to boot that are failing.. any more suggestions would be appreciated.. --trey
