Vmware has the 3.0 Workstation Beta out for free right now.
It works flawlessly under my stock SuSE 7.2 install recently.
I installed Win2000 & OpenBSD in it so far without problems.

correct me if I'm wrong, but since you bought SuSE, the CDs and DVD have
the kernel source package you need (named lx_sus24). You don't need to
download anything unless you want the most up-to-date kernel and source
(officially 2.4.7).

There is one additional step involved before you can compile VMware
modules (copy /boot/vmlinuz.{version.h, .config, autoconf.h} into the
correct places in the kernel source tree). This information is either
somewhere in SDB or from the mailing list (I know, it's not exactly
fully searchable).

VMware is third-party software, and it's not really SuSE's fault if
VMware doesn't integrate as nicely as it could.

SuSE does some things differently from Red Hat, but in my experience it
simplifies many tasks if you have a good understanding of the Linux OS.
I would hope you'll reserve further negative judgment of SuSE for the
time being, as people on the list are willing to help you get grounded
in it.
