I was thinking of the configuration of monitors under Xfree. I was concerned that the scan rates for the desktop and laptop monitors would be sufficiently different as to cause problems for one if the monitor parameters set under Xfree were were set for the other monitor.
You can use higher resolutions on the monitor, but they simply won't display on the LCD. If you plan on using the same resolutions as the LCD, you will most likely have no trouble. You can also tweak the scan rates for your monitor and the LCD usually won't care. They're very cool that way. You can make as many modelines as you wish, but I recommend making the default one compatible with the LCD. For example, if you want to be able to use 1280x1024 on the monitor, you can have: SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" "1280x1024" EndSubSection That way, X will come up with 1024x768 by default and you can hit CtrlAlt- to get to 1280x1024 (I set mine up to simulate zooming). Unfortunately, with this setup you'll end up having a virtual size of 1280x1024 on your LCD, which can be annoying. You can also write a script that switches between two XF86Config files. -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com
