SuSE7.1/compiled kernel 2.4.0/minimal installation/KDE2.2. I have ppp support compiled into the kernel. The external modem is functional and the ISP account is paid up. I can connect with minicom, both in a terminal and XWindows. Both wvdial and kppp return the same error message, kppp error 1 (a copy of the kppp log for the PAP/CHAP authentication option is attached). I have cycled through all of the kppp account setup authentication options with the same result, with the exception of the terminal-based authentication. The terminal based kppp login process with manual response to the ISP user name/pass word request was successful in that the connection was maintained, but non of my apps, i.e., Netscape and mail tool, seemed to be aware of the connection. Finally, I could get a successful connection with the stock, default kernel, and only started having this problem with the compiled kernel. What have I missed? Thanks in advance.
