I just updated to the new nvidia drivers last night w/ no problems. However, I did not use Yast2 to update. Also, according to the nvidia release notes, you should NOT "update" the GLX driver. You remove the old one first, then install the new GLX driver. I downloaded the drivers and installed them as follows: rpm -Uhv NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-1512.suse72.i386.rpm rpm -e NVIDIA_GLX rpm -ihv NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-1512.suse72.i386.rpm You should then check your XF86Config file and make sure you have an entry like "load glx", and in the driver section make sure you have "nvidia" and not "nv". It took me all of 2 minutes, and my frame rate went from about 1200 FPS to 1600 FPS! Hope that helps.... "Requires Windows 95 or better...", so I installed Linux...... -----Original Message----- From: Tracer Bullet [mailto:tracerb@sprintmail.com] Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2001 9:05 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] nVidia update? Ok, everyone, other than learning all this new stuff, I have run into my first road block! I did an online update tonite thru Yast2, which updated my nVidia stuff to the new version. Whoops, should not have done that it seems, I get a lockup when the nVidia kernal is loaded!! Had to reinstall my original install kernal to get booted up beyond the login screen! I hate when that happens!! Anyone, got any ideas what is going on? Do you have to update your kernal to 2.4.7 before using this new nVidia thing or did something not get updated correctly? Does it keep an old version of the last updated nVidia kernal and GLX files before updating and where?
