I am shortly going to present an introductory Linux course and intend to use SuSE 7.2. I have at my disposal a couple of reasonably up to date PCs and 15 older ones. The latter have floppy drives, network cards but no CD drives. I am thinking of allowing students to install SuSE via ftp or NFS. I would like to know whether any list members could make some suggestions about the best way to do this. For instance, I will not be popular if I swamp the college's Internet connection by having 15 users simultaneously installing from an outside source, so would like to know what I should install on one of the good PCs to give the best facilities for this installation - a copy of the installation CD or a copy of some part of the ftp site. Any other ideas would be much appreciated. Arthur
I had no luck installing SUSE 7.2 via ftp or NFS. After turning on debugging on the FTP server I determined it was looking for a file that did not exist on the CD. This was being done on my internal network, with the personal edition. Maybe the professional edition works. I eventually installed one of my CDROM drives into the computer and installed it that way. What a bummer. You would think a function like would have improved over time. What I did was mount the first CD on one of my machines, and then supplied the login information, and it connected OK, but it was looking for a file called root in a specific place. I could not find it on the CD. I had the same problem for NFS.
