I've put true type fonts in my font directory, ran ttmkfdir and mkfontdir, edited /etc/XF86Config to include the truetype font directory and added Load "freetype" in the Modules section. When I try to start X, I get "Could not open fixed font" error. If I remove the true type font dir in the /etc/XF86Config file, X will start, but of course i have no TT fonts. What could be the source of the "could not open" message? I have checked file permissions on truetype fonts & subdirectory. all ok.
