Hi Sean, Afaik there is no really specific option for processors in the kernel, but there are some different kernels available (now speaking of rpm's): First, the default kernel, which is called 'pentium optimized', and should run flawlessly after the upgrade, in case you already used it before. 2nd, the 386 kernel, also for 486, which I do use for my Athlon box since it didn't accept a pentium kernel. If you use this, maybe you would have to switch to (1st.), or it might run better with (1st.), but I cannot tell you for sure. Then there are several special kernels for multi-processor and stuff, or, of course, you can always build your own kernel, which I never dared. What I would do in your place is to dl the latest pentium optimized kernel from SuSE as an rpm, (was 2.4.7 when I did it), and then install it the usual way: 1. Download new kernel, as an rpm. 2. Backup your old kernel: # cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old and # cp /boot/initrd /boot/initrd.old 3. Install new kernel: # rpm -Uhv k_deflt.rpm 4. Create new ramdisk: # mk_initrd 5. rerun lilo: # lilo Cheers ... Wolfi ================================== mailto:wolfi_z@web.de
