Are xscanimage and xsane the same software regarding which scanner, is been used.

They look different to me but both use sane.
I cannot get xsane to work but have got xscanimage working but am worried I may be taking 2nd best regarding the software for scanners.

I am using Scanner dev/sg1....model Canon, Canoscan 300

I also have Gimp installed but I cant get it working with the xscanimage, something is quite not correct.
in the gimp plug in folder I have xscanimage but no reference to the scanner in gimp tool bar etc...
If you get XSane working you can use File->Aquire->XSane image.

Please post messages that XSane displays when you try and run it. Type xsane in a xterm. Also type the following: ln -s /dev/sg0 /dev/scanner chmod 777 /dev/sg0 M
