Hello Tor from Lourens:

Thanks to you, Anders and Eric for the assistance - once I had, with your
assistance, the logic (procedure) sorted out, I could take a deep breath
and I found the problem, well sort of..

The IBM 40GB worked fine doing the optimisation on my mobo (Asus A7V133
with 1.2GHz T-Bird) and also in an AOpen AK73Pro with the same
CPU/RAM/AGP/nic/chassis/etc tht were used in the DFI installation.
A Seagate 10GB in the DFI AK75-EC caused the same problems as seen with
the IBM 40GB.

So, I guess that the DFI AK75-EC mobo is off my shopping list for Linux
installations ...
It worked fine until I tried optimising for Athlon ??

Hey, I think that I now have that procedure etched in my brain for life -
completed more than a few of those cycles in the last two days.

Bye.

" Looks correct.
"
" make modules IS important :-) You are changing the architectural
" definitions
" of your system...
"
" I normally use "make bzlilo" instead of bzImage and install...
"
" remember to check if the newly compiled kernel is in your
" /etc/lilo.conf
"
" remember to check if you need to run mkinitrd ( do you need some
" special
" modules on boot ? )
"
" remember to run lilo when everything looks right
"
" Otherwise - it should be a "flap your arms and fly" procedure :-)

If you find a solution and become attached to it,
the solution may become your next problem.
