on Thu, 05 Jul 2001 11:24:45 +0100 in corel.wpoffice.wordperfect8-linux: well, I worked with SuSE 7.1 (Linux-Kernel 2.4.0, XFree86 4.0.2, KDE 2.0.1) and WP8 (light) and everything was fine. Now I updated to the SuSE 7.2 (Linux-Kernel 2.4.4., XFree86 4.0.3, KDE 2.1.2) - you know - never touch a running system - now when I try to start the xwp I get the errormessage: "can´t load library libXpm.so.4" (that´s a link to ...4.11).
Hallo everybody, some time ago I reported here a solution for the SuSE 7.2 / WP8 problem - the error of the SuSE 7.2 is, that the package shlibs5 (with the old libc5) does no more contain a libc5 compatible libXpm.so.4 . My solution was, to install a libXpm.so.4 from a SuSE 6.x version.
Now Ed March kindly informed me, that he had found an even simpler solution, because the SuSE 7.2 has a file (or strictly speaking a sym-link) with name libXpm_wx.so, that seems to be the old libXpm.so.4 So even all *non-linux-gurus* have a real chance to start xwp ;-)
First please install with Yast or Yast2 the package shlibs5 - if not already installed. Next start a terminal and do the following: cd /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib ln -s libXpm_wx.so libXpm.so.4 cd
Well, I tried this and it´s functioning. Kind regards - Bernhard
