I can sucessfully use my ide cd-rw drive. However I must "modprobe sg" each time I reboot before I can use the drive.
I though that entries in modules.conf would do the trick. Taking my que from the CD-Writing HOWTO I added the following: options ide-cd ignore=hdc #alias scd0 sr_mod #pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi #before sg, load ide-scsi #pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi #before sg, load ide-scsi alias scd0 ide-scsi pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi The first line and the commented lines are from that publication. I have tried them too. I used the following lines becase sr_mod does not exist as a module so I am guessing it is in the kernel. I'm running SuSE 7.1 with 2.4.2-4GB on a Dell 4100 pentium III.
I guess I could just put the modprobe in a script at appropriate init level(s) but I feel that it can be done more appropriately elsewhere.
