Since dicovering that hdparm can be used to set the dvd's dma, even though
yast2 says it can't, I've been able to watch dvds in linux, and it works
quite well. However, in xine, I can't seem to get it to play discs from
another region.
Searching the net, all I can find are HOWTOs and FAQs that tell me that the
disk is probably from another region - well, duh :)
Now, I can watch the dvds in VLC, so I know it's not a hardware restriction
(unfortunately vlc has other problems, such as audio/video synchronisation,
but it could be an option in the future).
So the question is: has anyone been able to get xine to play DVDs from a
region other than their default, and if so how?
