Oh boy, no wonder you got no answer. I never heard of this prog before =) 1. I don't think you have to worry about where you install this proggie. I tend to do the same thing with other progs and the newer version pretty much overrides the older one even if you have both installed. But I would uninstall the old version before installing the new. 2. I don't like rpm. If something doesn't come with suse and u need it go for source and compile yourself. Not sure what you were trying to do with 'rpm *.tar.gz' 3. Take the source and compile it. ./configure make make install 4. You might end up getting same error. Hence you may need to update glib or install dependencies. It's looking for glib-config and its in one of the packages, I hope. I tried installing galeon the other night from source and it(yast) couldn't find glib-config either and I myself wondered if SuSE forgot to include this file. I gave up because I didn't want to see galeon that badly. Well if suse actually had a decent search engine for their packages (contents) on the web but that will never happen it seems. But we discussed this before.... mk
Hi, All I am a newbie and I've posted this twice before but not had a single reply - can someone offer some suggestions?
Hi, all, I'm a newbie and I am still puzzling over a (hopefully) simple one, and can offer some new details: I installed Sylpheed mail using yast, and yast stuck it in /usr/X11R6/bin/
Now I want to upgrade to version 0.5.0
To make sure the path of the update matched the already installed version, I downloaded the latest version, sylpheed-0.5.0pre1.tar.gz, into /usr/X11R6/bin and tried to make it into an RPM thusly:
rpm -ta --clean sylpheed-0.5.0pre1.tar.gz
the error I got was
checking for glib-config... no checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.6... no *** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. configure: error: Test for GLIB failed. See the file 'INSTALL' for help. Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.29072 (%build)
But since Sylpheed is already running, andfrom the same directory, and glib *is* installed, I am at a loss (this is not a difficult position for me to be in).
Can anyone offer this newbie any suggestions?
