fetchmail/sendmail config question

After installing SuSE 7.2 I am trying to get my email set up
as I had it before on SuSE 7.0.
Basic setup is use fetchmail to get from ISP and deliver locally.
I can make it work, but I need to do one of two things, neither of
which I had to do on SuSE 7.0.
I need to either
1. open up smtp in /etc/inetd.conf, or
2. add the following to my .fetchmailrc file:
mda "/usr/sbin/sendmail -oem -f %F %T"
Since I do neither of these things on my SuSE 7.0 setup, I wonder
what *else* I did to make it work on 7.0. Any ideas?
