I'll include steps below in case that helps: (I'm no linux expert bear that in mind as ya read) yast -> system admin -> network -> ppp this shouild fire up wvdial configuration. Edit the existing profile. test it to ensure it works. Once tested, back out to the "Change Configuration File" option. There is an option for ppp dod start set that to yes and it will launch wvdial in dod mode. I've used this on a dial up connection. it works well. a word of advice. if ya sharing this connection with other networked pc, setup the firewall. (also done in "change configuration file". Using kernel 2.4.x will propably give ya entries in the /var/log/messages file like could not locate module tty-ldisc-3... SImply edit /etc/moduies.conf there is a section with an if statement which checks the kernel version via uname. Add these aliases: alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp_async alias ppp0 ppp_async - From what I've read kernel 2.3.x changed the module names and added more ppp options. (async, multi-link,etc) Funny thing is this only crept up on my systems when I enabled the firewall for IP masq.... I know this is a lot of info, but I figure save ya the trial and error I went through. Ambrosius
Hi.
I try to set up diald with 7.1, and soon 7.2.
I have read an article 'diald in suse 6.4' here in the SLE.
Has the http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/de/html/hoe_wv_dod_start.html also value for the 7.1 and the 7.2 versions ??.
I can see, that the directory /sbin/init.d is not to be found with 7.1.
Hee there is a /etc/init.d .
Is this the same mentioned directory ??.
