re dave, im not sure if you have a laptop and talking about your integrated display or if youre talking about a monitor (not a lcd panel) if the first, you must chosse a resolution that fits your lcd's resolution (for x) some laptops can do a scaling of the text mode, which often looks ugly, so you have to give the vga=xxx option to the kernel while booting (look in the doc's what you need for xxx to fit your resolution) if you have a monitor, you can either try do configure x via sax2, as corvin suggested (or xvidtune). or you can adjust the settings at your monitor, every monitor (if not a really old one) is capable of storing different settings and recall them when needed. so it should not disturb windows operation. i recommend to do the latter, its easier and sometimes (if not often) its nearly impossible to set it up correctly via sax2 (mostly the refresh rate goes down and down as you adjust it.....at least for me...) if you want to have the textconsole fill up your monitor you should adjust it at the monitor anyway........ greets, chris Am Sonntag, 10. Sorry - I misunderstood totally (the perils of being a novice!). I have now delved into both sax2 and xf86config, but have only succeeded in going round in circles :), with only a slight increase in the size of the screen image. - I think I had better come back to it tomorrow, refreshed :) many thanks, dave, stroud,uk.
