      re dave,

well, if you have a different frequency as under windows (and im sure you have under x) than
you need to adjust your monitor again.
same applies if you change the refresh rate for example under windows.

try it !

        many thanks for your email.  i am not sure this is the answer as
the monitor works well with windows, without any adjustment, and has done
for several years.   i have to keep windows for the time being as i have
several applications that are not supported in linux - particularly my
Creative web-cam go plus.

i would say you should adjust your monitor, i.e. the horizontal &
vertical
size.....
...
its normal that if you use a video mode for that your monitor hasnt been
configured before,
...
you have to adjust it......
