RPM's for 6.0 on 7.1
I am working on removing the only Windows server in our building.
It is serving just one Pervasive.SQL application and I'm trying to
move that to SuSE 7.1 (or 6.4 for that matter, the server I have in
mind hasn't been upgraded to 7.1 yet.)

The RPM from the Pervasive website states that SuSE 6.0 or
higher is required. Additional documentation lists possible versions
as 6.0/6.1. I tried to install and it complained of invalid directory
locations for it's startup scripts which it is trying to copy into
/etc/rc.d/init.d/. I imagine a symbolic link to the correct location of
the init directory will resolve that issue, but I'm curious of what else
might happen. This is the first time I've tried to install software from
a provider other that SuSE itself. Everything I've used up to this
point has come right off the SuSE installation disks.

My question is, Is it possible to install the RPM's from 6.1 onto
7.1? (or perhaps 6.4?) Is it common to use software written for an
earlier version of SuSE on the current release? If so, what types of
modifications are necessary and what should I look out for?

Thanks everyone for your help.
~Dale

P.S. Does anyone have any experience running Pervasive.SQL on
Linux? There are distributions available for Caldera, Redhat, and
Solaris as well.
