Hi: I'm running SuSE7.1Pro Ed and downloaded postgresql. There's a lot of confusion on my part about what SuSE did with the handling of files, but more immediate is to clear up the part about what the password is, when I type the command, $ su - postgres Password: su: incorrect password
Any experts out there install this, and if so, what documentation did you follow? I can't get a handle on where the SuSE install stops and the documentation continues. For example, looks like it's installed in /var/lib/pgsql, and pgaccess is in /usr/lib/pgsql, and commands are in /usr/include/pgsql/commands. Thanks, Tom
[ Please do _not_ send to me directly. I would like to be selective about reading suse-linux-e. ] The user postgres does not have a passwd set pr. default, so if you want to be user postgres you should be root first, and the su - postgres. If you want to be able to log in as postgres directly, you'll have to set a passwd for that user first, by issueing 'passwd postgres' as user root. -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A.
