I ran Wine without a M$ partition , just creating a /Windows,
windows/system tree and tuning the wine.conf (suse 6.3)

Last time I tried to use WINE (under SuSE 6.4 I think) it still required that you have a Window 98 partition, which you set up in the WINE config file (/etc/wine.conf IIRC).
I thought I had seen several people mention that you don't need to have a Windows partition anymore (I don't on my box), but when I went to set up WINE under 7.1 the config file still wanted to know where my Windows partition was. Perhaps that is optional but it didn't seem to be.
WINE offers to options - Native Libraries and WINE Libraries. If you don't set it up to use your Windows directory, it will simply use it's built in library (true of all versions I've used going back to 1998). You might want to checkout Codeweaver's WINE 1.0 Preview 3 (www.codeweavers.com). It has a nice configuration tool and a nice graphical message log window so that you can see what's going on even if you run WINE from a shortcut rather than the console. NOTE: Never use WINE with a Windows installation - always copy the needed files to a folder in your Linux installation. I've had WINE seriously mess up working Windows installations before. -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech.
