From Paul Abrahams to SuSE listserve about Re: [SLE] Is the NVidia bug...:
I'm far from the only person who's observed this bug, though recompiling KDE2 is certainly something worth trying as a solution, particularly since the bug seems to arise through an unfortunate conjunction of the planets. Two questions:
1. Did you try logging out, logging in again, and then switching to a virtual terminal? Some people who thought the bug didn't exist only tried the VT switch on the first login, which is when it works. I didn't do this on purpose but I can surely imagine i've done this, as I was tweaking my kdmrc file as root in a console and have logged in and out several times.
2. What portions of KDE2 did you recompile and where did you get the source? That's particularly vital since the bug might be version-related. Everything that is but a little kde-based. Qt (but this shouldn't do it), kdesupport, kdelibs and kdebase. I don't use the other packages like kdenetwork, kdemultimedia etc. I got the source from one of the kde ftp mirrors. (/pub/kde/stable/2.1.1/distribution/tar/generic/src/) except for the kdelibs (/pub/kde/stable/2.1.2/distribution/src/)
