X wants to sleep

hi all,
I have, since I upgraded to a 2.4 kernel, a very annoying problem. When
I'm using X, after some time (sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes
only half an hour) my screen suddenly blanks and if I don't move the mouse
or hit some keys my screen powers off a few seconds later. I have to keep
moving my mouse, until I have saved all open documents and closed
everything, then I shut down X. The problem doesn't go away until I
reboot.
I've had this problem using different drivers (both nv and nvidia) and
using different windowmanagers (WindowMaker and KDE2).
I have a TNT2 video card and the 2.4.4 kernel from mantel's directory. I
use XFree 4.0.2. I hope the problem goes away with X 4.1.0, which I am
compiling right now, but my guess is that it's something kerne based.
Is there anybody else out there who has experienced such problems or could
anybody give me a hint on what might be wrong here?
