Nope, it doesn't. zcat is only needed for diffs compressed with gzip. For uncompressed diffs, just use 'patch -p0 < alsa***.diff' or 'patch -p0 -i alsa****.diff'.
But you could spare yourself the work and directly download the kernel tarball from pub/people/mantel/next as it has the patches applied. Any reason for not doing so?
Are you saying that alsa has been put into the kernel sources here???? Mark
