I installed a 2.4.3 suse kernel on some of our machines here (SMP support, 4G mem limit) The kernel works fine on single CPU machines, installing the same kernel on an SMP machine with 1G of ram causes the kernel to hand immeditaley after freeing unsused kernel memory (just before it sais INIT version XXXX ....) Doing an append="MEM=768M" in lilo makes the thing work just fine. Anyone outthere with an SMP machine w 1G (or more) who has got that kernel (or a later one, at least one with the knfsd/reiser patch) working with 1G ?
