Can't access Jazz or Zip SCSI on 7.1

Hi:
I have SCSI Jazz and Zip drives. They are hooked to a controller with
Advansys ASC3050B chip. On Suse 6.2 I used modprobe advansys and these
devices worked just fine. Now running 7.1 with the 2.2.18 kernel, the
modprobe takes a very long time and fails to access the devices.
/proc/partitions shows a long list of empty partitions. The physical
drives are never accessed (no blinking lights). In short, advansys SCSI
is broken!
Any idea how to fix this?
I considered just trying the 2.4 kernel, but that won't boot. Some
probelm with the IDE drives. I will write another email about that.
Thanks for comments.
