Reverting kernel from 2.4.2 to 2.4.0

How do I revert the kernel from 2.4.2 to 2.4.0? I can't
find anything in the original 7.1 distribution corresponding
to k_deflt_24_-2.4.2-4.i386.rpm, so if I remove that rpm
(using the rpm program or Yast), it looks as though I'll be
left with many missing system components. (I want to try
reverting the kernel because I couldn't get the 8139too
ethernet driver to work under 2.4.2, even though it worked
under 2.4.0.)

Also, if I revert the kernel, do I also need to revert
modutils, or will the newer modutils work with the older
kernel?
