Two days after posting to this group, and five weeks after
requesting support from SuSE I got a response to my question and it was
RIGHT ON TARGET. Problem now fixed and got the 7.1 distro with both
kernels installed. Thank you SuSe support.
Solution to the problem of non-installation turned out to be the
timing on my Plextor CD-ROM writer; set it to asychronous and all was
well.
