I would suggest copying these messages to the list, so that others can contribute and possibly pick up on errors or omissions. AFAIK on a sw basis, you need to check that your sound card is configured correctly. The fact that you get sound through other applications seems to suggest that this is the case. Secondly, adjust the volume in the Sound Mixer program, which is usually the problem when people complain that they get sound except for when attempting to play audio CDs. On a hw basis, you need to check that there is an audio cable between your CD player and your sound card, and that it is connected correctly.
