Can anyone tell me how to get root-tail to work with kde2 ?
You can use sux from an xterm and then put an & on the command and exit.
I just tried this and no joy. Even though it is running according to ps, I get nada on my desktop. This is with the newer rpm, too. Must be another factor involved. I keep hoping someone will have the answer, but nothing's worked yet. I miss it.
KDE2 covers the root window with one of it's own (so it can put icons etc on the 'desktop'). This obscures root-tail, xsnow, xearth and all the others that work by writing to the root window. They still work, you just can't see what they are doing. There's no fix and there isn't likely to be one any time soon. The subject was discussed on the KDE developers list, but no solution seems possible. I understand that the next version of GNOME will use the same technique as KDE-2 so GNOME users will be howling about this one in a few months!
