I am have been unable to figure out where and when to setup the connection and mount for my netware server.
I am able to do this in terminal after linux and xserver boots:
# establishes the connection between the eth0 card # and my ipx ipx_configure --auto_interface=on --auto_primary=on
# mounts the netware server to /mnt/FMG ncpmount -S FMG /mnt/FMG -U username -P password
Where can I put these commands in order to have them executed at the end of the boot process and before (I presume) the xserver starts?
The best plan is to write a basic init script using the example in /etc/init.d. You then link this script into the appropriate rc?.d directory. Most instructions should be in the skeleton init script. (Unfortunately boot.local isn't appropriate here :( ).
Also, is there a way to prevent commands, like these, which normally interact with the console from doing so?
You can redirect standard input, standard output and redirection using the '<' and '>' charcaters. See 'man bash' and search for 'redirection' for the gory details. You'll probably want: <command> 2>&1 > /dev/null
I have been able to accomplish this on a user basis but I want these mounts to take place globally for all users.
